Out of all these Songeymoon songs so far, this is the one that drew the most inspiration from my life as it is right at this moment. It's about the grind of motherhood and a dull ache of longing for something else - whether it's the wild days of the past or just something outside of the monotony of the every day.
It is dedicated to everyone I've ever partied with who now feels left out of my life, anyone from Long Island and all the moms out there.
everything used to be easy
before days dragged on and on
with each little task
and the weight of the past
and rising with the dawn
everything is an opportunity
a way to break the ground
while they're off making deals
i'm spinning my wheels
and the earth turns round and round
and i'm not sure but i think you were
in this dream i had about that time we were
stranded on the LIRR
and we shared a cigarette before the conductor
kicked us off in Freeport
everything makes me feel dirty
like a toddler in the park
and i haven't heard
those kind of words
since i gave up on being smart
tell me that you would come only
if you felt my heart
but stay as you were
perfect, deterred
just before the start
i'm not sure but i think you were
in this dream I had about that time we were
stranded on the LIRR
and shared a cigarette before the conductor
kicked us off in Freeport
